Founded in 1915 under the leadership of George W. Saunders, the Trail Drivers Association honors the legacy of Texas’s historic cattle drivers. Its first officers were John Rufus Blocker, president; Saunders, vice president; Luther Lawhon, secretary; and R. B. Pumphrey, treasurer.
Today, the association has about 400 members, most of them descendants of the original trail drivers. Headquartered in San Antonio, the group hosts two annual parties, bringing members together to share stories, preserve family histories, and celebrate a proud Texas tradition.
